Week 10: Playa del Carmen and Guanajuato
Welcome to our weekly recap! This one's for March 5th-12th, which is week 10, 2014. Our final days in Playa del Carmen and travelling to the captivating city of Guanajuato. Still in Mexico.
Most memorable moment: When arriving to our rental place in Guanajuato we were met by the owner who explained us all about the apartment and gave us great tips. And then he showed us the rooftop terrace... Wow! Even in the darkness of night the view was amazing! And we get to set up our office in front of this view every day. Such lucky us.
Surprise of the week: How smoothly our 13-hour transfer from Playa to Guanajuato went. The landlord was on time in the morning, we catched an early bus to the airport, checkin and security checks were nice and easy with no lines, straight to a taxi on Mexico City airport, very little traffic in this often congested city, early bus to Guanajuato, taxi waiting for us, the driver found the way to our new home easily. Everything was on time and we didn't get lost or confused at any point. We even stayed on a good mood through the whole day.
Workwise: I've been building the website for Antti's e-book, preparing blog posts, and spending quite some time preparing for our future travels. Booking frenzy :) Antti's been revising his book, doing web analytics and studying data visualization (Psst. If you or your organization has a website with Google Analytics tracking installed, Antti's doing free data analyses for the first few to contact him at the moment).
What did we learn: In Mexico, you are supposed to disinfect all fruits and vegetables growing on or close to the ground. We had a small bottle of the disinfectant also in our Playa apartment, we just didn't realise what it was meant for.
Food love: I'm addicted to Mexican candies, the ones covered in chili powder. Especially the mango flavored lollipops, I've already eaten two bags of them.
Tip for others: When you have to eat at the airport, check the prices between the foodcourt and the nicer restaurants. While the fast food places at airports often have hugely inflated prices, the ones that are normally pricier might not raise theirs. This can lead to fast food costing the same as a nice restaurant meal!
On Friday we had a coffee date with fellow nomads Alyona and Jean, whom we first met in Chiang Mai last year. When returning home from that we realised it was time for sunset and took a detour to the beach.
Playa del Carmen can also be peaceful at times. And oh so pretty!
Just had to take a picture of these houses at Playa. Aren't they cool?
Our apartment in Guanajuato is so nicely decorated. Like these closet doors.
Guanajuato is colorful and full of life. I've already fallen in love.
This is our office view for the next two weeks. We even have wifi and electricity up on this rooftop terrace of ours.
I think this is one of the best office views we have had so far.
Guanajuato is built mostly on hills, with the center of the town being in the valley between. Lot's of walking up and down, so we'll probably be much more fit after these weeks...
Narrow streets, plenty of colors, so much charm. Did I already say that I'm in love with this city?
And that's it for our week. How was yours?
