Our April 2014

April was a great month for us. We started off in the colorful, warm hearted Guatemala; got our tourist mode on with Orlando attractions; hopped on a cruise ship to cross the Atlantic; and met with friends in Puerto Rico.

Statistics

Countries visited: 6  (total 22 countries*)
Guatemala, USA, Bahamas, Puerto Rico (new for Antti), St. Maarten (new for both), and Azores (new for both). We did count Puerto Rico, St. Maarten and Azores, although theoretically they are not countries but autonomous regions.

Cities/towns visited: 7 (total 65 cities/towns)
San Pedro de Atitlan & Antigua (Guatemala), Orlando region (Florida, USA), Nassau (Bahamas), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Philipsburg (St. Maarten), and Ponta Delgada (Azores).

Beds slept in: 6 (total 75 beds)
Airbnb house in Antigua (5), Pinocchio hotel in San Pedro (6), Yellow House Hostel in Antigua (5), Days Inn Cruise Port West in Cocoa (1), Rodeway Inn Maingate in Kissimmee (2), and Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas cruise ship (11)

Average daily spend on accommodation: Guatemala 19€, USA 34€, cruise 25€ (22€)
In Guatemala we spent 5 days in Antigua during the holy week, when the prices skyrocket. For these 5 days, we paid 37€ per night. In comparison, our double room in San Pedro cost 11€. For the cruise, I got the costs by first reducing 400€ as travel expenses and then dividing the rest evenly between accommodation and food.

Average daily spend on food: Guatemala 34€, USA 40€, cruise 31€ (33€)
We kept eating really well in Guatemala and had no kitchen to use, ending up spending relatively much. On the other hand, in the USA we spent more, and there it was mainly fast food. During the cruise most of our eating costs were covered in the cost of the cruise, but we did visit a cáfe at few of the ports and had dinner in San Juan.

* All totals Anno Digital Nomad = after January 4th, 2013.

In the blog

We started with a recap of last month, in Our March 2014.

Week 14 we got back to work after a vacation week. Our friends, the Nomadic Danes, moved in with us for a few days before we headed to San Pedro on the lake Atitlan. San Pedro was a place where you could easily get stuck for a long time, with cheap accommodation, good food and cute cats.

Few more days in San Pedro on week 15 and then heading back to Antigua to experience the madness of the holy week.

Week 16 was truly action packed. We said goodbye to Guatemala, saw a rocket launch at Kennedy Space Center,  said hi to Harry and friends at Hogwarts, hopped on a cruise ship, visited Bahamas and met some dear friends in San Juan.

Week 17 was spent mostly at the sea, crossing from St. Maarten to Azores.

Being busy with other things and spending half the month on a cruise ship with no real internet connection, we didn't publish any additional posts. Shame on us!
