Our February 2014

Welcome to our second ever monthly recap!

We spent the whole of February in Mexico's Yucatan, an area of beautiful beaches, sunshine and colorful towns. We like it! Plenty of tasty food, relaxed bars / cafés to hang out, great snorkeling, and everything one might need available (blue cheese in the supermarket!). Only the challenges with internet have caused us grey hairs during the month.

Still, we've been working a lot, escaping the heat of the day by staying inside glued to our laptops. After work, we have been meeting many fellow nomads (Playa del Carmen is clearly a digital nomad hot spot) and done some exploring. We even took a 4-day course on Spanish, followed by a 3-day island vacation!

Statistics

Countries visited: 1  (total 18 countries*)
Still in Mexico, still loving it!

Cities/towns visited: 4 (total 56 cities/towns)
Chicxulub, Merida, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen

Beds slept in: 4 (total 67 beds)
Airbnb apartment in Chicxulub (1 day), Hotel Reforma in Merida (6), Hotel Marcianito at Isla Mujeres (3), a rental apartment in Playa del Carmen (18)

Average daily spend on food: 28€ (32.5€)
The week in Merida we stayed in a hotel, which meant eating our all the time. Same at Isla Mujeres, which was also quite expensive. In Playa we have been eating out about once in 2-3 days and most often not in the cheapest places. Although not in the fancy ones either.

Average daily spend on accommodation: 26€ (22€)
Our apartment in Playa del Carmen is a bit more expensive than what we hoped, but it's nice and big. And we could have hosted a friend if anyone had showed up for a vacation.

*Anno Digital Nomad = after January 4th, 2013.

In the blog

In the beginning of the month, on Week 5, we finished our relaxing stay at the tiny coast town of Chicxulub. Most of the week we spent in our favorite city, Merida, busying ourselves with learning Spanish and hitting all our favorite restaurants again.

Week 6 saw us moving around a lot. We started in Merida, spent few lazy days at the vacationer island Isla Mujeres and finally ended at Playa del Carmen, our home for a month.

Whole Week 7 was spent at Playa del Carmen. Mostly worrying about internet, a challenge that led Antti to write a post There's no free wifi. We did meet some cool fellow nomads though!

Week 8 was a more active week. Having finally solved our internet problems, we were more free to move. We plunged to the waves of the local beach, ventured to Tulum for cenote swim, beach and ruins exploration, and met more cool fellow nomads.

We also wrote about Our time in Europe in 2013, followed with more details about Our accommodation in Europe in 2013  (includes links & costs!).

It hasn't been only writing posts either, we did create a Nomad Search page to help you (and us) to find digital nomad resources in the internet! It's a work under progress, so let us know how you like it and how to improve it. It only covers about 400 web sites at the moment, but we'll be adding more soon.
