Week 7: Playa del Carmen
Welcome to our weekly recap! This one's for February 13th-19th, which is week 7, 2014. It was all about getting settled in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Most memorable moment: Meeting great people! We met Finnish travel blogger Teea (& co.) from Curious Feet and fellow digital nomads Celia and Jonas aka. Nomadic danes.
Surprise of the week: The main pedestrian street here is very different from what we expected. There are some of those souvenir stalls and tourist restaurants you see in all beach destinations, but there are also many stores selling fancier brands.
What did we learn: A lot about doing business online, since on the absence of wi-fi we have been listening to tons of podcasts (Tropical MBA, Fizzle Show, New Business Podcast, Suitcase Entrepreneur)
Food love: We are consuming insane amounts of yogurt nowadays, it's such an easy snack when you're (or feel) too busy to make anything else.
Random thought: We are so dependent on internet! After being without a working connection for a week, Antti even wrote a post about our struggles: There is no free wi-fi
Tip for others: Burger King (and McDonalds) both usually have quite decent free wi-fi and drinkable coffee for a fraction of the price in cafés. And they are usually not full, so they will not throw angry glances at you if you stay longer.
Our office for the week, the local Burger King... It was right next to our apartment, and we needed to be close by in case the internet guys decided to show up. They were always coming "today" but gave no exact times.
Our neighborhood is about 10 minutes walk from the craziness of 5th Avenue, and there are plenty of cute small restaurants around.
This is our home street. Calm and quiet, we like it!
I have only seen the ocean from a block away, but Antti took a walk there one early morning. My mission this week is to actually get to the beach.
