Our June 2014

August is well on it's way, so it's time for a monthly review. June that is... Terribly late, but I blame Antti for taking so many photos with his new camera that it took me ages to sort them through.

June started with a couple more days of walking the Camino de Santiago, followed by a quick stop in the captivating city of Madrid. Then we returned to Finland for the summer. Except that we didn't really get any summer before July, the temperatures were freezing!

Statistics

Countries visited: 2  (total 23 countries*)
Spain and Finland.

Cities/towns visited: 7 (total 89 cities/towns)
Villafranca del Bierzo and Trabadelo along the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain, then Madrid. And our home hoods in Finland: Helsinki, Hämeenlinna, Kokemäki and Sastamala.

Beds slept in: 13 (total 100 beds)
Albergue de la Piedra (1) and Hostal Cruce (1) in Villafranca del Bierzo, Albergue Crispeta in Trabadelo (1), a great find Madrid City Rooms in Madrid (3), and 9 beds in Finland visiting friends and relatives.

Average daily spend on accommodation: Spain 28€, Finland 0€ (20,5€)
Our last nights on Camino we didn't stay in hotels, so our nightly costs were low. And in Madrid, our comfy and central hotel was only 44€/night. In Finland we have been visiting friends and family, so there has been no accommodation costs (yey!). Thank you all!

Average daily spend on food: Spain 36€, Finland 21,5€ (32,5€)
On Camino and in Madrid we ate out all the time, but since it's easy to find good and cheap food, the costs were only 18€ per person per day. Our food costs in Finland may seem low, but we have been cooking ourselves most of the time and been spending time with family.

* All totals Anno Digital Nomad = after January 4th, 2013.

On Week 22 we finished our walk on the Camino de Santiago and headed to Madrid.

Week 23 started with a day exploring the energetic city of Madrid. Then we headed back to our dear Finland, starting with a few days filled with friends in Helsinki.

Next, on week 24, it was time to visit our parents. We left the big city for the smaller ones, Hämeenlinna and Kokemäki. The summer weather wasn't really there for us, but otherwise it was great to see our families again.

Week 25 was the midsummer week. I spent the celebration of the midnight sun at a metal music festival in the woods, freezing but happy. Antti chose to celebrate with his relatives in the village of Karkunkylä, where they had a nice bonfire.

On week 26 we were still enjoying the countryside. We chilled in the peaceful Karkunkylä and visited an old books festival in Sastamala. Then we were sightseeing in Lavia before starting an animal-filled life in Kokemäki.

We also showcased the highlights of our 5 months Americas trip (transatlantic cruise, USA, Mexico and Guatemala) in Our time in the Americas, and wrote a recap of Our May 2014.
