Our May 2014

May started with indulgence: finishing our transatlantic cruise and then flying straight to Malaga, to enjoy a week of all-inclusive living in a resort. The rest of the month we tried to make it up by hiking 200 km! Camino de Santiago had been in our minds for a long time and now was perfect time to do a part of it. So up we went and started walking.

Statistics

Countries visited: 2  (total 23 countries*)
UK (just for half a day) and Spain.

Cities/towns visited: 20 (total 85 cities/towns)
Benalmadena and Malaga in Southern Spain, 87 towns along the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain.

Beds slept in: 21 (total 95 beds)
Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas cruise ship (3), Holiday Village in Benalmadena (6), hostel Residencia Universitaria San José in Malaga (2), pension Calfred II in Logroño (1), hotel Forum Evolucion in Burgos (1), hotel Chess Quindos in León (2), hostal Rio Selmo in Ponferrada (1), and 14 albergues along the Camino.

Average daily spend on accommodation: Southern Spain 54€,  Northern Spain (Camino) 22€ (22€)
In Southern Spain, we spent most of our time in a nice all-inclusive hotel with my parents, and paid much more for our accommodation than usually. During Camino, we splurged on a hotel room in the bigger cities, spending about 50€ per night. Most of the nights we slept in the albergues, paying 5-10€ per person for a bed.

Average daily spend on food: Southern Spain 62€,  Northern Spain (Camino) 37€ (33€)
Again, the cost of the all-inclusive was way over our average budget. On Camino, we ate out 95% of the time, so 18,5€ per person for day is quite good I think. Thank the 9€ menus of the day!

* All totals Anno Digital Nomad = after January 4th, 2013.

Week 18 finished our transatlantic crossing with a few more sea days. Then it was time to fly to the Costa del Sol of Spain, and spend some quality time with my family. In an all-inclusive water park hotel, of course.

Our time in Costa del Sol continued to week 19, when we finished our all-inclusive stay and were positively surprised by the city of Malaga. We also took a bus accross Spain and started our 3-week walk on the Camino de Santiago.

Weeks 20 and 21 were all about walking, working and eating. Repeated daily.

Having difficulties finding time to write and an internet connection good enough to upload photos, we only managed to publish Our April 2014 just before the month of May was over.
