Week 44: Athens and Kemer

Eating (too much), working (too much) and sightseeing (not enough) in Athens. Then flying to Antalya, to spend our next weeks at the Coworking Camp Turkey!

Welcome to our weekly recap! This one's for October 31st - November 6th, which is week 44, 2014

Memorable moment:
On Sunday, the Monastiraki square was swarming with people, young and old. I joined the crowds, struggled my way to a gyros stand, and sat down at the square to savor my haul. I watched the passers-by, walking leisurely and enjoying their day off. People kept talking to me in Greek and for a moment I felt like I belonged there.

Food love:
On Saturday I took Antti on a personal food tour, to visit all the great places I visited on TBEX-tours. We started, how else, than with souvlaki. Then continued through the meat market to the Miran deli (just a hint: the ones with a weak stomach should probably skip the market). At Miran we picked a selection of cheeses and meats to try out, and washed them down with some artisan beer. For dessert we walked to the milk/pastry shop Stan, where we had the best ever, creamy goat-milk yogurt with honey and walnuts. And of course some loukoumades, donuts with honey and cinnamon. Then, we finished the day with some good wine on a square, watching the Saturday night come to life.

Tip of the week:
On first Sunday of each month (winter time?) many of the sights in Athens (incl. Acropolis!) are free for visitors. Many sites close already at 3pm, so be early. Sunday is also the day to catch the full ceremony of changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Greek Parliament and to visit the Monastiraki flea market.

Random thought:
It's the dialogue between old and new, grandiose and homey, elegant and edgy that makes things special. Like this view of Acropolis.

Workwise:
As already mentioned, we are at the Coworking Camp Turkey in Kemer (near Antalya, in south). Group of digital nomads and entrepreneurs, gathered together to "get work done in the winter sun". And that's exactly what we are planning to do! Got already a good start with a very productive few days and many interesting discussions with the others. - We're here for 6 weeks, longer than we've been at any location during our digital nomad life. So it's like settling down for us.

Surprise of the week:
Last time I checked the weather for Kemer (couple of weeks ago), it looked like it'll be a bit under 20C. Now when we got here, we've been treated with clear skies and warm sun every day. It's almost hot during the days!

What I've learned:
While I do love our location independence and travelling the world, it is soooo nice to have an office (with sea view and coffee machine) and interesting coworkers! We really need to do something like this more often. Please someone, organise more of these around the world for us!!

And that's it for our week. How was yours?
